Rush Limbaugh, 1951 - 2021

Republicans and "thrill-seekers everywhere" (as Rush liked to greet his listeners) mourn today the death of Rush Limbaugh, a giant of conservative analysis and an expert in communicating that analysis to his audience for more than 30 years. Ever since he was diagnosed with lung cancer just over a year ago, we suspected the day would come when we would turn on the radio at noon and learn that the last time we had heard his confident voice opining on the day's news was indeed the last time we would hear it. Today was that day.

We pause to honor the memory and enormous impact of Rush on the country he loved so much. Thank you, Rush.

Governor DeSantis Takes on Big Tech

Somebody's got to do it! Governor Ron DeSantis appeared on Fox News' Tucker Carlson show last night to explain how the State of Florida is again leading the way, this time in tackling Big Tech's habit of deplatforming, censoring, and demonetizing certain users. See the clip here.

Help for the Homeless and Nearly Homeless

Earlier this month, the State of Florida received nearly $85 million from the federal CARES program, the program aimed at relieving the impact of the COVID pandemic and resulting shutdowns. This Emergency Solutions grant targets the homeless, especially those who are newly homeless or on the verge of losing their shelter due to financial difficulties caused by the virus's impact. It will be administered by Florida's Department of Children and Families. What Was It President Trump Did?

In his eloquent farewell speech this afternoon, President Trump provided to anyone who had slept through the last four years a staggering list of his accomplishments while in office. He also said that this movement had just begun. Watch the speech here.

Separately, First Lady Melania gave her own goodbye speech the day before, in which she urged Americans to "not lose sight of your integrity and your values." Watch it here.

DeSantis Puts Seniors First

Florida is leading the nation in the number of vaccinations given, mostly to seniors, to protect them from the Covid virus. The state has partnered with Publix supermarkets as well as local churches to speed administration of the vaccine to those over 65, since that age group represents 80 percent of the deaths so far from the virus. No Rally January 9

The Stop the Steal rally hosted weekly by Trump's American Patriots at U.S. 1 and 312 has been cancelled for Saturday, January 9, 2021. Organizers cite the very high tensions on both sides and a wish to keep people safe.

A Nation in Distress

This upside-down American flag expresses how many of us feel today, after the Georgia (and U.S. Senate) loss, after months of demanding justice--so far in vain--over the 2020 election fraud, and after the chaotic events yesterday at the Capitol and subsequent approval of the Electoral College's vote for Joe Biden as President. Among all the mainstream media noise over the storming of the Capitol, this writer heard only Fox News's Tucker Carlson address the important question of what would drive some of the marchers to behave as they did. Club Dues Are Due, $5 Increase in 2021

Our Monday, January 18, meeting kicks off a new year for the club, and members are reminded that dues are due this month. Club dues have remained static for at least eight years. Starting this year, they increase slightly to $35 for a couple, $25 for an individual, and $10 for a student. Kindly bring your payment to the meeting (cash or check made payable to RCGSA), or mail your payment, with current contact info, to Republican Club of Greater St. Augustine, P.O. January 6 in St. Augustine

Can't be in D.C. on January 6 for the march? Patriots will be assembling at the intersection of 312 and U.S.1 here in St. Augustine on Wednesday the 6th from 9 a.m. to noon (or whenever) to support the President as the joint meeting of Congress takes place to approve or disapprove the electoral vote. Bring your flags and positive spirit. Signs will be available.
